This may be something you include as part of a eulogy or separately as its own reading. Many people find that funeral poetry helps them express emotions that they have difficulty expressing on their own. We believe all of these popular funeral poems are in the public domain. You may also want to consider creating a free memorial website, where you and others can share photos, stories, funeral details, an obituary and more, in addition to poems.

Because you live, though out of sight and reach, I will, so help me God, live bravely too, Taking the road with laughter and gay speech, Alert, intent to give life all its due. I will for your sake praise what I have missed, The sweet content of long-united lives, The sunrise joy of lovers who have kissed, Children with flower-faces, happy wives. And last I will praise Death who gives anew Brave life adventurous and love—and you.
In misty cerements they wrapped the word My heart had feared so long: dead I heard But marvelled they could think the thing was true Because death cannot be for such as you. I can hear them quarrelling Warm summer sun, Shine kindly here, Warm southern wind, Blow softly here.
Green sod above, Lie light, lie light. Good night, dear heart, Good night, good night. The poem has an agnostic bend, making it more common at non-religious funerals.Mccormick 100 manure spreader parts
When I am dead, my dearest, Sing no sad songs for me; Plant thou no roses at my head, Nor shady cypress tree: Be the green grass above me With showers and dewdrops wet; And if thou wilt, remember, And if thou wilt, forget.
I shall not see the shadows, I shall not feel the rain; I shall not hear the nightingale Sing on, as if in pain: And dreaming through the twilight That doth not rise nor set, Haply I may remember, And haply may forget. Remember me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you plann'd: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad.
My Captain! The poem uses a metaphor to describe Lincoln leading the U. Unfortunately, many people can relate to the feeling of mourning that comes after losing someone just as things are starting to get better. O Captain! O the bleeding drops of red, Where on the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead.
This arm beneath your head! But I with mournful tread, Walk the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead. It combines messages relating to the acceptance of death with the notions that the person is never really gone and that you will see them again. When I am gone, release me, let me go.In times of great emotion, Tessa Schlesinger writes poetry.
She's done so since she was five years old. This morning, at 5. He had a long and happy marriage to my sister, Charmaine Schlesinger. He left peacefully, still loving my sister, and while he made peace with the fact that the end was near, he did not want to leave.
It made me think about my own ambivalance about life. I do not treasure it, for it has been too hard. Yet, in his passing, I have come to value mine. To comment on this article, you must sign in or sign up and post using a HubPages Network account.
Enjoyed the Death poem. I gravitate toward this theme because it speaks to the purpose and meaning of life when someone close to us goes.

Death Death, when it comes, brings a sharp clarity. It strips us all of superfluous hilarity. Those of us it leaves behind, To sorrow, we are confined. The meaning in our own lives falls flat. What did it matter?People once believed that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest.
When Love Dies
Then sometimes, just sometimes, the crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right. When someone you love dies, and you're not expecting it, you don't lose her all at once; you lose her in pieces over a long time—the way the mail stops coming, and her scent fades from the pillows and even from the clothes in her closet and drawers. Gradually, you accumulate the parts of her that are gone. Just when the day comes—when there's a particular missing part that overwhelms you with the feeling that she's gone, forever—there comes another day, and another specifically missing part.
When someone dies, you don't get over it by forgetting; you get over it by remembering, and you are aware that no person is ever truly lost or gone once they have been in our life and loved us, as we have loved them.
When someone dies, it is like when your house burns down; it isn't for years that you realize the full extent of your loss. You really have to do your job as a writer and push people to be as creative as possible.
The Terrible Pain You Feel When The Person You Love Loves Someone Else
What's nice about the TV medium is you have such a connection to the characters that when somebody dies, the audience cries.
They really feel it. You really don't cry when someone dies in a horror movie. The photo replaces the memory. When someone dies, after a while you can't visualize them anymore, you only remember them through their pictures. It's like when someone dies, the initial stages of grief seem to be the worst. But in some ways, it's sadder as time goes by and you consider how much they've missed in your life. In the world.
The best way to look at countries on a map is like a chalk outline drawn by the police when someone dies what you are seeing with the borders are just outlines of historical crimes past warlords empires its nothing to be loyal to. Have loyalty to reason, to evidence, to ideals not to lines drawn up mostly by criminals. Humor is imperative, more important than food. You have a choice when someone dies. You can lie down or get back into life. Do something for someone else.
I like birthdays because we celebrate life with cakes.
It's so cool. Sometimes when I see a baby, I'm like that much more cake in the world. But then when someone dies, I'm like the cake streak is over. Life is precious, and when someone dies it's an opportunity to realise how precious it is. My brother drowned when I was He was A sleep I shall have A rest I shall have Yet death will be but a pause For the peace of my years In the long green grass Will be yours and yours and yours.
A limb has fallen from the family tree. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. God looked around his garden And He found an empty place.[Free audio] Death, it's a rough one
He then looked down upon this earth, And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest. He knew that you were suffering He knew you were in pain He knew that you would never Get well on earth again. He saw that the road was getting rough. I wrote your name in the sand, but the waves washed it away. I wrote your name in the sky, but the wind blew it away. Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow, I am the softly falling snow. I am the gentle showers of rain, I am the fields of ripening grain. I am in the morning hush, I am in the graceful rush Of beautiful birds in circling flight, I am the starshine of the night. I am in the flowers that bloom, I am in a quiet room. I am in the birds that sing, I am in each lovely thing. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there.
I do not die. I could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to sing, to play Tasks left undone must stay that way I found my peace … at close of play. And if my parting left a void Then fill it with remembered joy A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss Ah yes, these things I too will miss. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee God wanted me now He set me free.Have you lost a pet and are looking for something to comfort you?
Do you know someone grieving the loss of their pet and want to offer support and condolences? One of the best ways is with pet loss poems. They can communicate feelings and emotions in a far greater way than our own words. So have a look through our range of pet loss poems below. The loss of a pet can be such a difficult time. They so often become one the most important things in our lives — members of the family, there to comfort us at our lowest points, the source of such happiness.
Nothing to can prepare you for that loss. And very little can help to comfort or console you as you grieve.
But we still try. We reach out to others who have lost a pet. We want to comfort them. But how do we show we understand and offer that sympathy for their loss? A great way is with a pet loss poem. Poems go beyond a simple message and express the feelings we may be struggling to articulate ourselves.
They can be touching, heartfelt, stir emotions or work as a way to come to terms with the loss. So if you or someone you know is grieving the passing of a beloved animal friend then a pet loss poem may help to deal with that grief and bring a small amount of comfort amongst the pain. These are some short and simple pet loss poems.Install galaxy store on non samsung phone
They are perfect for including in a sympathy card or note, perhaps with a gift. You could also put these on something like a fridge magnet or framed with a photo of your lost pet to remember them. It takes us back to brighter years, to happier sunlit days and to precious moments that will be with us always. And these fond recollections are treasured in the heart to bring us always close to those from whom we had to part.
So, though I give you all my heart, the time will come when we must part. But all around you, you will see, creatures that speak to you of me; a tired horse, a hunted thing, a sparrow with a broken wing.
In subtle ways they let us know their spirit still survives. Old habits still can make us think we hear them at the door Or step back when we drop a tasty morsel on the floor.New unimog
Our feet still go around the place the food dish used to be, And, sometimes, coming home at night, we miss them terribly. And although time may bring new friends and a new food dish to fill, That one place in our hearts belongs to them… and always will. Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years.
Think how she must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away.Free organic loops
And think of her as living In the hearts of those she touched For nothing loved is ever lost — And she was loved so much. These are much longer and more in depth poems.
They can be used for memorial and funeral readings. When an animal dies who has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. When you love someone, you do not love them all the time, in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is an impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to.
And yet this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love, of relationships. We leap at the flow of the tide and resist in terror its ebb. We are afraid it will never return. We insist on permanency, on duration, on continuity; when the only continuity possible, in life as in love, is in growth, in fluidity - in freedom, in the sense that the dancers are free, barely touching as they pass, but partners in the same pattern.
The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping, even. Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what was in nostalgia, nor forward to what it might be in dread or anticipation, but living in the present relationship and accepting it as it is now. Relationships must be like islands, one must accept them for what they are here and now, within their limits - islands, surrounded and interrupted by the sea, and continually visited and abandoned by the tides.

And the flame that used to be, Ceases to persist It feels like a wound that won't stop bleeding, Like it's your last breath you're about to take, And it feels like your soul's watching, And all you can do is pray you wake.
When love dies, It's like everything slows down to a stop The tears that came rolling down your cheeks Are taking ages to drop To the cold tiled floor I fell onto my knees, It felt as if the light followed her shadow, As she slammed closed the door Love died, I know this because my soul died too.
And it was hurting as much As all the pain I put her through. When love died I ceased to exist The only thing that kept us together Ceased to persist. Did you spell check your submission?
